Tananya Huyanan was one of the pioneers of the Legal Unit (Agreements & Compliance Unit), Bureau for Economic Integration and Finance of the ASEAN Secretariat from 2004 - 2008.  She was responsible for legal research, analysis, drafting, advice and interpretation of ASEAN trade and economic related agreements generally with respect to ASEAN's Economic Agreement, Dispute Settlement Mechanism (DSM), Intellectual Property (IP) and Competition policy (CP). She was in charge of the Working Group on Legal and Institutional Issues (WGLII) for several ASEAN FTAs/PTA negotiations as well as responsible for the legal issues in the on-going FTAs/PTA negotiations.  Her role also included drafting inputs for the meetings, drafting summary reports, representing ASEAN Secretariat in several ASEAN meetings to hold discussions with and among Member States and colleagues from other institutions, assisting and servicing expert groups, preparing speeches and other inputs for presentations by senior officials and related duties as required.

Prior to joining the Secretariat, Tananya was an Attorney in the Intellectual Property Division of Tilleke & Gibbins International Ltd. in Bangkok, a law firm which is well known globally for coordinating and implementing high-level anti-counterfeiting and anti-piracy campaigns. Tananya's duties included IP enforcement and handling major copyright settlement negotiations. She was also responsible for local and international media liaison on IP law and enforcement issues.

Tananya holds a LL.B from Thammasat University (Bangkok, Thailand). She is admitted to practice in Thailand and a member of Thai Bar Association and Law Society of Thailand.
